The Certified Detection Engineer & Threat Hunter (CDETH) credential validates practical detection engineering and threat hunting skill across file, network, and behavioral detection.

Holders have demonstrated hands-on capability with YARA, Snort, and Sigma rule development, alert classification with written justification, regex pattern construction, and adversary emulation testing against real malware samples and TTPs across the MITRE ATT&CK framework.

Criteria

To earn the CDETH certification, candidates completed 16 instructor-reviewed challenges across real datasets and real TTPs. Required work included:

  • Classifying alerts as true positive or false positive with written justification
  • Writing regex patterns and explaining why each pattern works
  • Authoring YARA rules against indicators of compromise
  • Writing or tuning Sigma rules with detection logic explanations
  • Providing emulation tests for adversary tactics across the MITRE ATT&CK framework
